New Spaceport America Executive Director Named
LAS CRUCES, NM – The New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) Board has
announced the hiring of Steven Landeene as the new Executive Director for Spaceport
America, the nation’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport. Landeene will fill the
position left vacant by Rick Homans. The announcement came from Kelly O’Donnell, Chair
of the NMSA, who said that Landeene will assume his responsibilities on January 7, 2008,
as the Spaceport continues to meet key development benchmarks. More
Spaceport America Design Unveiled
LAS CRUCES, NM – A team of U.S. and British architects and designers, accompanied by officials
from the New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA) and Virgin Galactic, will unveil the design
renderings of Spaceport America at a press conference Tuesday, September 4, in Las Cruces, New
Mexico. Construction on the 100,000 square-foot hangar and terminal facility is scheduled to begin in
2008. More
Spaceport America Architects, Officials, to Show Renderings of Spaceport at Las Cruces Press Conference
LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico Spaceport Authority and representatives from the architectural/design team for Spaceport America will unveil renderings of the main terminal and hangar facility at a press conference in Las Cruces on Tuesday, September 4. The press conference will begin at 10:30 am at the Barbara Hubbard Room at the Pan American Center on the New Mexico State University campus in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Spaceport America Design Team Selected
LAS CRUCES, NM – A team of U.S. and British architects and designers has been recommended for award to design
the primary terminal and hangar facility at Spaceport America, announced Kelly O’Donnell, Chair of the
New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA). URS Corporation, one of the world’s largest design and engineering
firms, teamed with lead designer Foster + Partners of the United Kingdom to submit the winning design.

and Space Port, and the families of those involved in the terrible tragedy at Mojave. The space community
is a close-knit group and this accident touches us deeply. We are confident the cause of the explosion will

UP Aerospace, Inc. Successfully Flies Multi-faceted
Space Mission
April 28, 2007 -- UP Aerospace, Inc. -- www.upaerospace.us.com
-- UP Aerospace, Inc., a Connecticut-based company and
world leader in responsive and low-cost space access,
flew Spaceport America's first successful commercial
launch on April 28, 2007. The space mission, named "SL-2",
carried a wide range of educational experiments and
commercial payloads into space aboard the SpaceLoft
XL launch vehicle.
After achieving an altitude of 72.7 miles, the rocket
and the vehicle's payloads all landed safely in the
pre-established target location at White Sands Missile
Range. The SpaceLoft SL2 payload recovery happened on
May 18, 2007.

New Mexico Spaceport Authority
Former Economic Development Secretary to Ensure Ambitious
Schedule for Spaceport America
SANTA FE – Governor Bill Richardson announced that he
has appointed Rick Homans to become Executive Director
of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority. Homans will leave
his position as the Governor’s Secretary of Economic
Development at the end of the month to oversee construction
of Spaceport America, which is on a tight timeline to
become operational by late 2009 or early 2010. More

Spaceport Referendum Passes in Dona Ana County
LAS CRUCES – Final design and engineering for Spaceport
America will move into “high gear” as a result of passage
of the Spaceport Tax in Dona Ana County, according to
Rick Homans, chairman of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority
and the state’s cabinet secretary for economic development.

Funding Allows Spaceport to Move Forward
SANTA FE – Governor Bill Richardson worked with the
Legislature to secure $33 million in immediate funding
to proceed with Spaceport America final design and road
construction, according to Rick Homans, Chairman of
the New Mexico Spaceport Authority and Cabinet Secretary
for Economic Development. More
Long-term Agreements To Provide 18,000 Acres
for Spaceport America
TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES -- The New Mexico Spaceport Authority
has secured long term access to 18,000 acres for Spaceport
America by signing legal agreements with the State Land
Office, Sierra County, and two private ranch operations,
announced Rick Homans, Chairman of the NM Spaceport
Authority and the state’s Secretary of Economic Development.
