Key Events for 2006
- Frank Wengler presented on DMJMs programming and design of the spaceport.
- Chairman Homans stated that Virgin Galactic wants a design for the spaceport that is in line with the culture and environment of New Mexico.
- Lonnie Sumpter gave an update on the UP Aerospace launch, reporting that their final static rocket motor firing was a success.
- Sumpter also reported on the successful launch and orbit of Bigelow Aerospace's Genesis 1 on July 12, 2006. It is a prototype module for the first space hotel. He elaborated on Bigelow's connections to other entrepreneurial space companies, who will be located in New Mexico.
- Authority members voted to approve the name change from Southwest Regional Spaceport to Spaceport America, and follow through on any related legal issues.
- William Loomis discussed the opportunity to commemorate the official opening of Spaceport America with a U.S. postage stamp.
