New Mexico Strength
Having a great pool of highly-skilled technicians, engineers, and operators, New Mexico has served as an ideal location for space operations for government, commercial, and education. Numerous ground stations around the state coupled with advancing launch capabilities, operations has become a mainstay of the space sector in the State. In addition, New Mexico offers a space operations tax deduction for entities preparing, launching, or operating vehicles and payloads in space. Indeed, the legislative climate in New Mexico is at the forefront in the United States for encouraging the development and longevity of space operations.
Several government agencies and private companies conduct space operations in New Mexico including NASA, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, General Dynamics, and many others. Systems as important and robust as the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) have been operated from the State for more than three decades and provide services for the Space Shuttle, Hubble Telescope, Sea Launch, European Space Agency, and countless others. In addition, satellites used to monitor non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, gathering land use data, and fighting forest fires are operated from various sites in the State. Moreover, launch operations at White Sands Missile Range and operationally-responsive Spaceport America augment many missions for both the public and private sector alike.
